Tonight, our beloved Padres open up a series in Arizona, having won 5 of their last 7, easily their best stretch of baseball this year. Dinelson Lamet faces off against Robbie Ray in his third career start, and a nice look at him against a premium lineup to see how much of his success is for real. Everything appears to be in place for the rookie right-hander to have sustainable goodness, after holding the Mets and Cubs in check through his road and home debuts, respectively. Lamet has posted a 2-0 record to go with 16 strikeouts, 8 hits and 3 walks through 10 innings. Though I’d like to see him go a bit longer, I’ll take those numbers every day and twice on Sunday. The Padres rotation isn’t one to set hearts aflutter, but tonight is one of the few games we should have something fun to watch on both sides of the ball.
