Reminder: MLB Draft Starts 6/12

In what is amounting to one of the highlights of this season, MLB begins it’s Rule 4 amateur draft this Monday.  The Padres own the #3 overall pick.  Unfortunately, for my money, the appears to be one pick too low.  I love the looks of high school righthander Hunter Greene, but many outlets are pegging the Cincinnati Reds to select him with the #2 pick, should the Minnesota Twins pass on him at #1.  Ah well.

Other players rumored to be on San Diego’s radar include Vanderbilt righty Kyle Wright (thought likely to be Minnesota’s first choice), high school lefty Mackenzie Gore, two player Brendan McKay out of Louisville, and shortstop Royce Lewis, another high school draftee.

My guess is A.J. Preller and crew go with a high school selection, likely Mackenzie Gore, who’s risen up draft boards all season long.  I’ll move more on the draft later this weekend and all through next week.
